What are your values?

Ethics and ValuesI spent a few hours the other night contemplating what my values are and I guess that these are things that have followed me throughout my life so far and in some for or another shown up in various activites, jobs and the way I carry myself and interact with others.  So far my list in no particular order consists of:
  • Learning, Curiosity, wanting to know new things and sharing what I have learnt.
  • Creativity.
  • Teamwork and being part of a community.
  • Honesty, being genuine and reliable.
  • Hard work and challenging myself.
  • Security
  • Personal Growth
  • Innovation
  • Stability
  • Loyalty
I think this may still need some refinement before I can say that this is my decisive list of values. There are a lot of good resources online to help guide you towards your values but at the end of the day your values exist within regardless of whether you have put them on paper yet or not and you will discover them with a little quiet reflection upon yourself. Some resources I came across while thinking about core values: http://www.myvisionportal.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=56&Itemid=10 http://www.stevepavlina.com/forums/character-contribution/16188-what-your-core-values.html http://www.stevepavlina.com/articles/living-your-values-1.htm http://www.sideroad.com/seamless/column4.html

I have boiled down my longer list of core values into my list of five...

Being a geek (Positive connotation of the word)

    Being part of a community

    Lateral Thinking

    Personal Growth

    Being a good human

I will go into more depth about how I arrived at these in my Personal Development Plan which I will be releasing in just over a week.
